Boran's Notes

Quite calm wind in the beginning, then a light breeze from East set in just when I passed the Cap de la Hague.

The current in the Raz Blanchard (North-to-South) was extreme but expected. It was tempting to use the current and sail to Guernsey, but it was already too late for arriving there with the current. So I kept to the plan and sailed to Braye on Alderney.

Due to the current, my lead angle was 90 degrees for one hour. The course over ground was 270 but the boat pointed exactly North. Wind from the East would propel the boat just to the current’s speed (STW), effectively almost standing still over ground, and drifting towards my destination due to wind’s drag.

The shape of the water, streaming so fast, was fascinating and seemed unreal (see photos).

Arrival in Braye just in darkness. Anchoring a bit tricky between all the boats with zero anchor lights on.

Also beaching was difficult on the SUP. Was wearing the dry suit.
